BD Vacutainer® blood collection tubes are spray-coated inside with a silica-based blood clotting agent as well as a gel to form a barrier between blood cells with a red/ gray top. Secondly, sterilization applies to the tube and stopper interior only. Outside of tubes and packaging are not sterile. PET tubes reuse risk of breakage during handling and harm to personnel.
